96th Highlanders
The 96th Highlanders Pipe Band has been a part of the scene in Saskatchewan for many years. Started as "The Saskatoon Boys' Pipe Band," the 96th Highlanders have along history of success in competition. In the 1980s, the Bonnie Bluebells Pipe Band joined forces with the Boys to form the 96th Highlanders. The band's name and the cap badge insignia were taken from the 96th Battalion, Canadian Highlanders, recruited from Saskatoon and area in 1916.
The 96th Highlanders currently maintains both a grade 5 and grade 4 competition band. We welcome all youth between the ages of 9 and 21 from all backgrounds who are willing to dedicate themselves to mastering a highland band instrument. Classes are held weekly.
The band plays at Folkfest, Robbie Burns Day events, Remembrance Day services, benefits, sporting events, walks for causes, local and regional parades, and several other venues. Highlights of past performances include Expo '67, the Edmonton Klondike parade, and the Medicine Hat Stampede Parade.
